National TA network (GrEAT)

The national TA network started in 2010 as GrEAT (study group on technology assessment) and has a webpage at https://avaliacaotecnologia.wordpress.com/

The members are the TA community involved in the PhD programme, and also all the other interested people as scholars, supervisors, members of the parliament,and so forth.

Selection and ranking criteria

The selection of students is mostly based on their curricula and the letter of intention. Ranking criteria is based on the Code of Administrative Procedure (CPA) and on the interviewing process. Since the programme is very specialised, although inter-disciplinary, there are not more student candidates as the numerus clausus established for each academic year. Nevertheless, a selection criteria is defined, and the student candidates receives information on the results of the selection procedure.

Curricular Structure (version 1, 2009-15)

The PhD Programme on "Technology Assessment" is organised over a 4 year structure, and the training courses are distributed during the first 2 years but with 60 ECTS like the other PhD programmes. During that period is supposed to start the research process leading to the final thesis.

Strategy and aims

The PhD Programme on Technology Assessment is a 3rd cycle graduate programme proposed in the context of the European Union “Bologna Treaty”. This programme of doctoral studies is structured to offer students high quality training in interdisciplinary research. It is a programme that combines academic and scientific/technical training, as well as educational and economic goals. The duration of the programme is typically 4 years.
