3rd European Technology Assessment Conference

The 3rd European Technology Assessment Conference will take place in University College Cork (UCC) on May 17th - 19th 2017. The aim of the conference is to discuss how technology assessment and related activities such as science and technology studies, responsible research and innovation (RRI), public engagement, and foresight can strongly contribute to knowledge-based policy-making on science, technology and innovation, to engage policymakers and other stakeholders in this endeavour, and to learn from each other’s perspectives.  

Constructive Technology Assessment approaches and emerging technology fields

Dr. Douglas Robinson (Teqnode and Univ. Paris-Est) will provide a conference at Faculty of Sciences and Technology of Univ. NOVA Lisbon-UNL next 27th March 2017, on Caparica Campus, from 10h until 12h30m. The topic of lecture will be about "Constructive Technology Assessment approaches and emerging technology fields: dynamics and interactions".

The conference will have the support of the Doctoral Programme of UNL, from CICS.NOVA, Univ. Paris-Est and ITAS-Karlsruhe Institute of Technology

Seminar on Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI)

Prof. Andoni Ibarra, from the University of Basque Country, will provide a seminar on Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) for the PhD students of Technology Assessment. Other PhD students can also apply, for example from CICS.NOVA or from the LCI-FCT.UNL.

Accreditation for the next 6 years approved

The Doctorate Programme on Technology Assessment at University NOVA Lisbon is from now on accredidated for the next six years by the national evaluation agency (A3ES) and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education of Portugal.
The programme now has less courses, more consistent add-on courses, two optional tracks (one on Governance on TA, and the other on Health TA) and a joint doctorate initiative with ITAS-KIT.

Scientific Board of NovaFCT approves PDAT-2

The Scientific Board of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of Universidade Nova approved the proposal sent by Department of Applied Social Sciences for restructuring the Doctoral Programme on TA (PDAT). The proposal was sent to the national Agency of High Education (A3ES).

The course structure (60 ECTS) will have less units, and is designed to be completed in one year. The other changes already announced are still in the proposal.

Secção temática Conhecimento, Ciência e Tecnologia (APS)

A secção temática Conhecimento, Ciência e Tecnologia da Associação Portuguesa de Sociologia vai passar a estar associada aos eventos públicos do programa doutoral. Será feita a divulgação dos eventos (Escola de Inverno e Conferência Doutoral, entre outros), e haverá espaço para os membros da secção apresentarem os seus trabalhos e participarem nos debates.

Trata-se de uma colaboração que se pretende manter e vir a ser ampliada.

Restructuring of the PhD program approved at DCSA

The DCSA Department Council approved the proposal for restructuring the doctoral programme on TA. It includes a reduction in the number of compulsory disciplines, and the introduction of national and international cooperation tracks:

  1. The Joint Doctoral Initiative with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
  2. The track on "Health Technology Assessment"
  3. The track on "Governance of Technology Assessment" with the University of Liège

2016 Call for PhD Studentships and Post-Doctoral fellowships

Recognition at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)

The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro) from Brazil recognised our PhD title on Technology Assessment hold by Dr. Ana Clara Cândido. This is an important new once other Brazilian students of the PhD programme of Technology Assessment can have automatically that recognition in their home-country.

First of all, congratulations to Dr. Ana C. Cândido for this achievement!

Michael Decker new Head of Division at KIT

ITAS Director and PhD theses supervisor at FCT-UNL took over leading position at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. The Professor of Technology Assessment wants to keep close contact with the Institute and the scientific TA community.
