Sílvia Sequeira is a paper and book conservator, and a post-doc researcher at the VICARTE Research Unit. She holds a PhD in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage - Specialization in Conservation Sciences, from Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (2016). Her thesis entitled "Fungal biodeterioration of paper: Development of safer and accessible conservation treatments" was supported by an individual grant won in a competitive call, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Since 2004 her research career has been focused on the development of sustainable practical solutions for the preservation of our cultural heritage. She has also gained extensive experience into the practice of conservation and restoration of graphic documents and in preventive conservation of various types of collections at the Institute for Tropical Scientific Research (2005-2011). Since 2005, she has been teaching (BA and MA levels), and supervising Master's theses at FCT NOVA in the field of preventive conservation, conservation of graphic documents and biodeterioration of paper. Recently she has been dedicated to the study and development of an innovative method for cleaning fungal stains from documents and works of art on paper. |
