From the 1st to the 3rd of July, Ana Luísa Carvalho, Teresa Santos Silva and Cristiano Mota were tutors in the 1st CryoEM-X-ray Crystallography Synergy hands-on workshop, co-organized by Ana Luísa Carvalho and Hartmut Luecke, ERA Chair of the CryoEM@NOVA Horizon Europe Project.

In this comprehensive 3-day workshop, 10 selected participants (5 national, 2 from the UK, 1 from Germany, 1 from Spain, and 1 from Poland) delved into the fundamentals and advanced techniques of these cutting-edge structural biology methods. Participants had the opportunity to discuss with experts about recent advancements in CryoEM and Crystallography, as well as the future trends that are shaping the field. 

Training included a hands-on in CryoEM sample preparation, intro to CryoEM image data processing, fitting atomic models in CryoEM density maps and X-ray diffraction, indexing, integration and scaling and 3D structure solution by MR methods.

Selected participants with purified protein that fulfilled purity and size requirements prepared CryoEM grids from their own samples!
