The Master in Paleontology is focused on the scientific research. All aspects of the scientific process are encouraged: fieldwork and excavations, lab work, thesis, peer-reviewed publications, and progress for the Ph.D. programme

Fieldwork

During the master program, numerous field visits are conducted: Lourinhã Formation, Miocene around Caparica, Alvalade basin, etc.

Some students participate in international expeditions. International paleontological expeditions already conducted with Master and Ph.D. students: Angola, Morocco, Greenland, Wyoming, Mozambique.

Paleontological excavations in Portugal: Triassic of Algarve, Jurassic of Lourinhã, Miocene of Setúbal Península.

Laboratory of Macropaleontology

Named Laboratory of Macropaleontology Prof. Miguel Telles Antunes, this lab is specialized in the preparation of macrofossils, especially of vertebrates, such as dinosaurs, mammals and large Mesozoic and Cenozoic tetrapods.
