New paper out! A collaboration with ISR-Lisboa from Instituto Superior Técnico on "Optical Gas Sensing with Liquid Crystal Droplets and Convolutional Neural Networks". We show the identification of 11 different volatiles by video analysis of a single liquid crystal droplet using advanced image recognition methods. Congratulations to all! This past week, members from MARlab, with collaboration from ICNF, went back to the Sado estuary to conduct the spring sampling campaign for the Plastisphere project. The team was transported by an ICNF's boat to 2 different locations in the estuary, where we collected sediment and water samples. We took some pictures of the activities too (see below)!

Mariaelana took the lead of our newest paper in the bioprospecting of marine invertebrates for novel bioactives. This work lays the groundwork of our research line on cysteine-rich secretions in molluscs.
DES Solve Research group is welcoming researchers from abroad and supporting their application for the Short Term Scientific Missions (STSM) within COST action GREENERING. This action has the possibility to fund several STSMs. These are short term missions of scientific character up to about one month, funded up to about 3k€ (daily costs and traveling costs). The application is really easy, and it is allowed to exchange between uni-uni or industry-uni or uni-industry.
