Taking as a case study the collection of the National Tile Museum (MNAz), integrated in the ChromAz project (PTDC/HAR-HIS/1899/2020), this thesis will tell an unprecedented history of Portuguese Tile through the study of its chromatic evolution. The aim is to identify the pigments that make up the colours in panels from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries, combining a multi-analytical methodology. Through the study of recipes and other historical sources, reproducing the identified colours, it will be possible to produce replicas of tiles and fragments to be used in restoration interventions, a solution with enormous advantages for the preservation of the tile heritage.
The results of this project will be disseminated among different audiences, highlighting a digital tool for simulating pigment recipes, their publication, and an exhibition at MNAz focused on colour.
