Research Summary
The doctoral project involves the research on the historical evolution of grisaille through the critical analysis of historical written sources and the reproduction of historical recipes. These reproductions will permit to evaluate the production technology of historical grisailles, as well as to determine the impact of different environmental agents (humidity, rain, aerosols, pollution, temperature fluctuations…) in their degradation. Special attention will be given to the improvement of their conservation strategies and the promotion of the public appreciation of these artworks.
PhD Project Title: From the texts to the laboratory – a study for the preservation of historical grisailles.
Supervisors: Teresa Palomar (ICV-CSIC), Marcia Vilarigues (VICARTE, DCR FCT NOVA, Portugal)
