Biography

Ailin Chen holds a BSc in Mathematics Education (2001), MSc in Management and Information Systems (2008), the University of Manchester (the UK), and MSc in Colour in Informatics and Media Technology (2013), Erasmus Mundus MSc Programme (Spain, France, Finland and Norway). Her 2nd MSc thesis “Colour Visualisation of Hyperspectral Images in Art Restoration” researched on Norwegian artist Edvard Munch’s painting The Scream that is kept at the National Gallery in Oslo, Norway; where different mathematical models were applied in order to analyse and exhibit distinctive hidden features of the painting. Since 2017, she is a CORES PhD student in Conservation Science in DCR/FCT-UNL, with a doctoral project in collaboration with major museums and universities in Portugal. Her main research interest is the multidisciplinary studies on chemistry, physics, art and computer science, more specifically, the application and fusion of material analysis, hyperspectral imaging as well as artificial intelligence on artworks.
