Erasmus+ high school student

In the past three weeks we had the pleasure to host Roxana Cotojman from Colegiul National Gheorghe Magheru, Romania for an internship within Erasmus+ Program (with Casa da Educação). Roxana worked together with our PhD student Jorge Antunes and we hope she enjoyed the experience as much as we did!

Competition for GRANTING 1 RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP

A tender is open for the attribution of 1 Research Scholarship within the scope of the R&D DynaCellCollect – Cellulose membranes formed by shape-changing micro/nano-helices to collect micro-droplets of water, (ref.ª 2022.01619.PTDC), funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. /MCTES through national funds (PIDDAC)

Prestigious grant awarded to team studying how microbes make ‘nanowires’ to exhale electrons

The rising temperatures threatening life on our planet are caused in part by microbes that produce 50% of atmospheric methane, a gas 30 times more potent than CO2 at trapping heat. Surprisingly, another kind of microbe combats these rising temperatures by consuming up to 80% of methane released from ocean sediments.

We're looking for researchers with MSc

To be announced soon.

First area-scaling characteristics with solution-processed ZTO

Being a diode structure with the rectifying contact at the bottom (a), it is vital that the set occurs in the (negative) forward polarity in order to operate in the area-scaling mode. Only in this mode, the self-rectification can be maintained during switching (Milestone 3).

First Miletone "Successful solution-based ZTO and MoO3 thin film depositions" achieved

Deposition of MoO3 from solution has been optimized from the ground up. Attractive properties are achieved even at low temperatures (200°C). Work functions above 5.2 eV and excellent thickness control via the concentration in solution were obtained. Currently, devices are tested.

ZTO deposition from solution was optimized towards application in memristors. Also here, best performance was obtained with low deposition temperatures (200-250°C). While working between "traditional" Pt and Ti/Au contacts, we are now investigating novel contact materials.
