This past week, members from MARlab, with collaboration from ICNF, went back to the Sado estuary to conduct the spring sampling campaign for the Plastisphere project. The team was transported by an ICNF's boat to 2 different locations in the estuary, where we collected sediment and water samples. We took some pictures of the activities too (see below)!
Marta Ventura, PhD student at MARlab, will present her work "Characterization of Bromine, Arsenic, Cadmium and Lead contents in different key food items consumed by Portuguese population", tomorrow, at NOVAsaúde Nutrition Conference.
On the 31st of October, MARlab's Coordinator Marta Martins participated in the portuguese TV show Biosfera, where she spoke about emergent environmental pollutants, their effects and how they end up in the aquatic ecossystems, as well as some of the research developed at MARlab.
We are delightful to welcome our new colleague Catarina to the MARlab team!
Catarina is a biologist and she's finishing her master's degree in Marine Ecology. She is currently a researcher of the PLASTISPHERE project "Understanding microplastic biota composition and dynamics along the coasts of Israel and Portugal".
The project is led by Dr. Paula Sobral and Dr. Marta Martins.
