InBloom addresses the pressing conservation challenges posed by blooming in polyurethane-coated fabrics. Through a structured research approach, the project aims to deepen the understanding of blooming, assess its impact, and evaluate various conservation strategies for the potential prevention or promotion of blooming.
The project is divided into four key research tasks:
State of the Art through Published and Unpublished Sources
Reviewing existing knowledge and collecting unpublished data through an online survey and industry visits to document TPU-coated fabrics and related conservation concerns.
Identifying Blooming in TPU-Coated Fabrics
Characterizing blooming through analytical approaches to identify its composition and occurrence in fashion and design collections.
Investigating Blooming Impact
Evaluating the impact of blooming on fabric stability and assessing conservation strategies to inform best practices.
Connecting with Stakeholders
Engaging museum professionals, conservators, and designers through interviews to exchange knowledge and develop recommendations.
