My name is Susana Martins Moretto, I have a PhD in Technology Assessment applied to the European high-speed train system, awarded by the Department of Social Sciences, Faculty of Sciences and Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal in partnership with the Institute for Technology Assessment ITAS from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. I dedicate my time to research of practices that allow for reciprocal knowledge dialogues to occur between railways and society in Europe from product development to its entry in the market. I also provide external advisory for the European Commission and Shift2Rail. Before, I worked for the railway industry in research and development. I am currently based in Hong Kong where I foster the extension of my work to the local transport system and promote collaboration with local universities.
The aim of my work is to respond to railways needs for knowledge dialogues with society that allows for developing new products and services that meets new emergent travelers needs in the era of digitalisation. Through the extensive study of railways technology system, development process and its value chains, while recurring to technology assessment models of constructive technology development, I have developed effective practices envisaging such reciprocal knowledge dialogues to occur from early stage of technology development to market entry. My work has been recognized by the industry, the European Commission and the academic community from my contribution at significant conferences as Transport Research Arena Conferences TRA, the World Rail Research Conference WRRC and several Technology Assessment Conferences.
