Joana Tomás Ferreira is a modern materials conservator graduated with a BSc (2017) and MSc (2020) from NOVA School of Science and Technology.
For three-years, Joana integrated the project PlasCO2 – Green CO2 Technologies for the Cleaning of Plastics in Museum and Heritage Collections as a Master’s student and research assistant, where she contributed to the development of innovative and green conservation methods using supercritical CO2 for the consolidation of synthetic foams. Joana has also completed an Erasmus+ traineeship with Professor Anita Quye dedicated to the identification and assessment of modern and contemporary materials at the University of Glasgow.
In 2022, Joana was awarded with a FCT grant to study and develop preventive strategies for synthetic coatings in fashion collections and she is working in close collaboration with several museums to address this urgent need. She has also integrated the funded research project Glossy Surfaces: The Conservation of TPUs in Fashion.
