On Sunday 2 July at 17:00, there will be a bus (exclusively for participants in the conference) from Porto to Pocinho. The bus will be at the Estádio do Dragão metro station at 16:45 and will depart for Pocinho at 17:00.
Participants who intend to travel on the bus should fill in this form no later than Tuesday 27 June and be present at the departure point at 16:45.
If your travel plans do not permit you to be at the departure point at the given time, please send an email to conftca2023@gmail.com describing your travel schedule. The organizers will try to find a solution.
If you have registered to travel by the bus and are delayed reaching the departure point (by a delayed flight, by getting lost in Porto, etc.), you should send an email to conftca2023@gmail.com giving a telephone number and all details that could help solve the problem.
On arrival at the Centro de Alto Rendimento (CAR) in Pocinho, registration will take place and a dinner will be served.
For the return journey from Pocinho to Porto, the organizers are not arranging transport. Participants can travel by train. There are trains leaving Pocinho at 7:08, 11:08, 13:08, 15:12, 17:14, and 19:26; see the timetables here. Although the journey takes approximately three hours, it is a splendid experience as the train route traverses a UNESCO-protected landscape featuring stunning vistas of the Douro river and the region where Port wine is produced.
From 5 June to 5 July there is an ongoing strike on the Portuguese railways. There may be disruption to trains between Porto and Pocinho around the start of the conference.
The conference will be held at the High-Performance Rowing Centre (Centro de Alto Rendimento de Remo), Pocinho, in the Douro valley. The centre has conference, accommodation, dining, and social facilities, and includes a swimming pool and gym.
Note: Due to the large number of participants, some of them might be lodged in hotels in the village of Foz Coa (7 km from the conference venue – in this case, transport from/to the venue will be guaranteed). Participants who stay for the entire duration of the conference will have priority for accommodation at the rowing centre. The secretary's office will inform you later about the location of your accommodation.
The nearest major airport is Porto (Francisco Sá Carneiro) Airport (airport code OPO).
Line E of the Porto metro runs between the airport and Campanhã and Estádio do Dragão metro stations. Some trains from the airport on this line terminate at Trinidade station. In this case, just take take the next train (which may be for line A,B,C,E, or F) from the same platform where your train arrived. Returning to the airport, be sure to take a train for line E.
For travel between the airport and city, buy a Z4 ticket (= four zones), costing € 2.15. The journey takes approximately 35 minutes.
