Vera Barbosa is a team researcher at the Division of Aquaculture and Seafood Upgrading (DivAV) at Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA, I.P.). She has a MSc in Marine Biology with specialization in Biotechnology from the University of Algarve, Portugal. She has expertise in the management of scientific projects and has been developing expertise in seafood quality and safety assessment, nutritional characterization and chemical contaminants quantification in biological samples bioaccessibility analysis, culinary evaluation and consumers’ risk/benefit analysis, maintenance of farmed marine vertebrates and invertebrates, evaluation of metabolic, physiology and toxicology conditions in marine organisms and in climate change effects studies. She has 24 indexed scientific publications and 2 book chapters.
Currently, she is a PhD student in Environment and Sustainability at the Department of Environmental Sciences Engineering (DCEA), Faculty of Sciences and Technology, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (FCT NOVA), under the supervision of Professor Marta Martins (MARE, FCT NOVA), Professor Maria Luísa de Carvalho (FCT NOVA) and Doctor António Marques (IPMA). Her PhD research program main objective is to validate eco-innovative fortified farmed fish fed using natural feed ingredients (macroalgae and yeast) and evaluate their nutritional profile, toxicity and consumers health risks/benefits. The PhD research program is being supported by the ongoing H2020 Project SEAFOODtomorrow (Nutritious, safe and sustainable seafood for consumers of tomorrow), coordinated by Dr António Marques (IPMA, I.P).
