Carla Silva has a PhD in Marine Sciences, with previous degrees in Biology and Master in Toxicology and Ecotoxicology. Her research focuses on ecotoxicology, particularly on the sublethal effects of diverse contaminants in aquatic organisms, including metals, pesticides, nanoparticles, microplastics, plastic additives, and halogenated compounds released by invasive macroalgae (Asparagopsis armata). She applies biomarker-based approaches combined with field and laboratory studies to assess biological responses in invertebrates and fish. Her work also includes participation in multidisciplinary national and international projects, student supervision, and science communication. Postgraduate training in scientific diving (SSI certified), and FELASA certification for animal experimentation.
