Gonçalo Silva (GS) is a biologist, graduated at the University of Évora, did his PhD at the University of Algarve, currently is a researcher at MARE – Center for Marine and Environmental Sciences and is a founding member of the non-profit association MARDIVE (www.mardive.org). Over the last 20 years he has dedicated himself to studying the ecology, conservation and evolution of marine fish, in particular the effect of climate change and understanding the patterns and processes that occur in wild populations. His work contributed to conservation measures, namely the designation, implementation and monitoring of marine protected areas, as well as the management of species and habitats of conservation interest. He seeks to communicate science, from the general public or young school-aged audiences, through lectures, media and opinion articles, and involving local communities.
