Marine biologist with a master's degree, specialized in microorganisms and microplastics. Bárbara has worked in areas of the ecology (Palaemonetes varians in Salinas do Samouco; phytoplankton and microzooplankton in Ria Formosa; copepods in Germany), public education/awareness (in Lisbon), fisheries and pollution (in South Pacific, Azores and Madeira). She has collaborated in national and international projects focused in public health (project LABO in Tavira; a study of the use of Moringa oleifera in surface water treatment in Portugal and Brazil), aquaculture (development of cryopreservation protocols for larvae of Portuguese oyster) and pollution (a pilot study regarding microplastics and marine litter identification, abundance and distribution in the coastal lagoon Ria Formosa). Currently, she is a researcher at MARlab Team within the RiverSea project.
