Antonia Kellner

Intern Researcher at ML&MP Research Line

Antonia holds a Bachelor in Molecular Biology at the University of Basel in Switzerland. Her research focuses on the occurrence and identification of microplastics in the environment, and she conducted a systematic study of microplastic fiber release from different textiles during machine washing under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Bernd Nowack at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (EMPA).

During the internship in MARlab at NOVA School of Science & Technology in the research group of Prof. Dr. Paula Sobral, she will perform a systematic study of collection, preparation, and identification of microplastic samples from the ocean. The samples originate from water and sediments of different projects of the research team. After collection and preparation, she will identify the polymer type of the individual microplastic particles by using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR).
