About IDS-Paper

IDentification Smart Paper at a glance

IDS-Paper aims so to establish the conditions for designing and manufacturing self-sustaining intelligent systems for indexing and locating document files using technology implemented in functionalized paper.

To achieve these objectives, the prioject focuses on:

  • Development of technological green processes pertinent to the use of paper as a substrate as well as active component in electronic devices;
  • Overcome the physical, chemical and engineering challenges underlying systems integration of devices for brand protection and security of documents, powered by wireless energy harvesting sources;
  • Development of electronic paper systems able to control and to transmit data;
Bacterial cellulose substrates/ dielectrics and TFTs

  • Develop intercommunication interface and to integrate the different blocks developed;
  • Collecting and storage energy need (energy-harvesting), with the proper conversion (elevation) DC-DC electronics to provide the adequate supply voltage;
  • Wireless electronics development necessary for the collection and relay of data to different receptors;
  • Control and identification of encoded data.
Printed Circuits on paper

All of these systems expected to be developed have a strong impact on the challenges of the future towards a green deal technology. Key considerations to be taken in this project concerns the realisation of ultra-low power consumption systems, encompassing design, testing and prototyping of new environmentally friendly, recyclable, sustainable and cost-effective, based on eco-friendly concepts.

IDS-Paper expects so to establish the grounds of a paper electronic printing platform, thus proving the grounds for a creative green industry for the future.
