GeoBioTec is a research partnership in Portugal

GeoBioTec, GeoBioSciences, GeoTechnologies and GeoEngineering is a scientific research partnership between the Aveiro University (UA, general coordination), the NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT-NOVA) and the Universidade da Beira Interior (UBI). GeoBioTec develops interdisciplinary studies in geophysics, geochemistry, soil, biology, paleontology, petrology, mineralogy, industrial minerals, geomaterials, geotechnics, isotopic geology, hydrogeology, structural geology, volcanology and remote sensing. In January 2020, GeoBioTec integrates 80 researchers (33 from FCT-NOVA) and 72 collaborators (15 from FCT-NOVA) and is organized in five research groups, three with researchers from FCT-NOVA.

General coordinator: Prof. Fernando Rocha, Aveiro University

Coordinator at FCT-NOVA: Prof. Fernando Reboredo

The 3 research groups with people of FCT-NOVA are:

• Agroindustrial Technology (AT) – biofortification, phytoremediation, production and transformation of food raw materials (PI: Profª. Manuela Simões, FCT-NOVA)

Georesources, Geotechnics and Geomaterials (3G) – geological and geotechnical mapping, modelling and geostatistics, prospection, exploitation and processing of geomaterials, risk analysis (Coordinator at FCT-NOVA: Prof. José António Almeida; Coordinator at Aveiro University: Prof. Fernando Rocha)

Sedimentary Basins and Palaeontology (SBP) – sedimentary geology, tectonics, paleontology, biostratigraphy, evolution, global changes, geoheritage (PI: Prof. Paulo Legoinha, FCT-NOVA)
