Inês Moreira presented her poster about 'Biopolymeric hybrid films for the detection of volatile organic compounds' at the 6th International Conference on Multifunctional, Hybrid and Nanomaterials in Sitges, Spain, on 11-15 March 2019.
The poster reports the development of hybrid gels composed of self-assembled droplets of liquid crystal (LC) and IL stabilised within polymeric matrices. These materials change their opto/electrical properties in the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Under the SCENT project, a dedicated electronic nose device, with appropriate signal processing, has been developed to acquire signals from the hybrid gels upon VOC exposure. The work, presents the VOC discrimination ability of hybrid gels composed of different biopolymers.
