Program structure

This is an interdisciplinary program fully supported by UNL, jointly offered by the expertise of faculty members and researchers from 4 departments from the FCT, 2 Institutes from UNL and the National Health Institute Doutor Ricardo Jorge, covering a total of 7 independent research centers, providing students with a stimulating educational environment that spans from basic to applied research. The goal of the program is to allow students to gain perspectives on nanotechnology from a wide community of scholars within and outside their disciplines in both course and thesis work.

This 4-year PhD Program requires a total of 240 ECTS (8 semesters). Thanks to its combination of research centers, researchers expertise and specificity of the selected courses, it offers a unique and pioneering Doctoral program in Portugal, covering the most important aspects of nanosciences and nanotechnologies, while at the same time allowing a large flexibility and interdisciplinary for an ergonomic individual study program.

We have designed a customized taught program, which combines lecture-based delivery with a challenging program of laboratory-based training to immerse students in cross-disciplinary thinking.

This 4-year Doctoral Program requires a total of 240 ECTS (8 semesters).
