Miguel Fernández Ruiz

Miguel Fernández Ruiz obtained his diploma in Civil Engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain) in 2001 and was awarded that year as the best national civil engineering student. He later performed his doctoral studies at the same university, and obtained his PhD (cum laude) in 2004. That year, he joined École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland) as post-doctoral fellow, where he was later promoted to Senior Scientist. Since 2007 he has alongside with his academic career also developed a professional career as partner of a consulting company specialized in structural design. In 2021, he was appointed full professor in the Chair of Structural Design at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, where he is also associate Dean for Research, Innovation and Doctoral studies (at the School of Civil Engineering).
