Clausthal University of Technology (CUT) is an internationally renowned institution with strong regional ties. The University has strong traditions of quality education recognized and valued by many national as well as international companies. The Department “Underground Mining” at Mining Institute at Clausthal University of Technology has done several historical mining projects. E.g. “The Silbersegener water column machine - new knowledge for the construction and operation of a central water retention measure” or “Copper shale mining and metallurgy in Hanoverian Southern Harz Mountains”. Our expertise is in the field of Underground Mining. That means Mining Methods, Mining Machinery, Ventilation & Climatization, Support equipment, haulage technology, health & safety and sustainability. We performed in the last 10 years 9 historical conferences about specific topic relating the Mining in the Harz Mountains, which was important from 1500 to 1900 and in this time with very deep. CUT has a strong cooperation with the World heritage Rammelsberg Mine in Goslar, which is more than 2500 years in operation. The Rammelsberg Mine is Research and Education Mine for CUT. Also we have another World heritage mining site in the Harz Mountains: The Upper Harz Water Management. It consists of 107 historic ponds, trenches with a total length of 310 km and watercourses with a total length of 31 km and is 800 years old. Within this world heritage we are involved to explore all the water ways and strategies of water as the main powerunit.
