Geological Survey of Finland

Vuorimiehentie 5 P.O. Box 96 FI-02151 Espoo, Finland

The Geological Survey of Finland is one of Europe’s premier research centres for geoscience, having a rich history of mining-related research, dating back to times before Finland’s independence (1917), including iron deposits which were discovered around 1750. It’s greatest historic ore deposit was Outokumpu, and the discovery is linked to boulder tracing during 1908-1910, which led to the discovery of a massive sulphide-containing outcrop, and finally a mine was opened. GTK digital geological databases are ideal for searching such historic sites and others, which will be used in this Project.
