Dr. Sarah Scaturro is the Eric and Jane Nord Chief Conservator of the Cleveland Museum of Art, where she leads the technical research and art preservation program. Previously she was the head conservator of the Costume Institute, Metropolitan Museum of Art. In that role, she grew the conservation team from one full-time staff member to five and launched and guided a groundbreaking multi-year plastic preservation effort. An expert in the history and theory of fashion and textile conservation, Dr. Scaturro’s work has appeared in numerous publications and podcasts including VogueCNNNew York TimesHarper’s BazaarDressed, and the Guardian, among many others. She holds a PhD and MPhil in Design History and Material Culture from Bard Graduate Center and an MA in Fashion and Textile Studies from the Fashion Institute of Technology.
