Adriana Rizzo has expertise in the investigation of painted surfaces, as well as natural and synthetic organic materials by molecular spectroscopy and gas chromatography/ mass spectrometry techniques to address material identification, conservation and preservation issues. Over the past 10 years she has been involved in the survey of natural and synthetic plastics in fashion and design objects at the Met. Recent focus has been the characterization of thermoplastic polyurethane, p-PVC and cellulose esters, including cellulose nitrate coatings.
