Graduated in Physics in 1989 by the Universidade de Coimbra and PhD in Surface Physics in 2003 by Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Assistant Professor in the Physics Department of Faculty of Science and Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Belongs to the CENIMAT|I3N research centre and works in the field of Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering. For some years now, has been involved in or leading projects on skin, bone, and neuronal regeneration.

Skills, main research interests and projects: 

Synthesis, processing and characterisation of biomaterials for tissue engineering, evaluation of cell response to materials, neuronal regeneration, skin regeneration, antimicrobials for skin substitutes, nanobiomaterials.

Projects as co-principal investigator: NEURiTES: NEUral Regeneration with conducTivE Scaffolds; iSkin2: Improving skin regeneration through an improved Skin2 biosynthetic skin substitute.
