António João Cruz holds a PhD in Analytical Chemistry (1993), but since then has developed its activity in research and teaching in the field of the materials of the works of art and its scientific analysis. He also became interested in the problems and the history of conservation and restoration.
Currently he teaches Conservation Science at Escola Superior de Tecnologia de Tomar, Instituto Politécnico de Tomar, Portugal, and he is a researcher of CITAR – Centro de Investigação em Ciência e Tecnologia das Artes, Universidade Católica, Porto, Portugal.
