Virginia Fava is a psychologist with a master's and PhD in Behavioral Sciences from the University of Brasília (UnB), Brazil. She is researching digital health in primary healthcare as part of her postdoctoral studies at NOVA School of Science and Technology.
Since 2007, she has worked for the Brazilian federal civil service, focusing on social and health policies. The main areas of activity were: (1) management of the Bolsa Família Program, in articulating complementary programs and supporting social control; (2) monitoring and evaluation of primary healthcare, focusing on the Mais Médicos Program, in the design and development of the Health Information System for Primary Care (SISAB), and support of the Program for Improving Access and Quality of Primary Healthcare (PMAQ); and (3) monitoring of the Federal Hospitals in Rio de Janeiro. Since 2018, she has worked at the Center for Strategic Studies Antonio Ivo de Carvalho at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, in two research groups - Social Protection Policies and Federalism in Health Policies - and supporting the management of projects developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, to evaluate and improve health programs.
