Fernando Quintas is a painter and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon (FBAUL). He teaches glass art and mosaic, areas where he is making specific research. He has a degree in Painting from FBAUL, a post-graduation in Painting (FBAUL) and a PhD in contemporary stained glass (FBAUL). He has done several solo and collective painting exhibitions and was awarded prizes in painting and drawing. Also studied architecture, which is one of his main areas of interest. He is currently researching the relation between low-tech (earth construction) and high-tech (rare earths – lanthanide oxides)  in a project that aims to create a theoretical and practical link connecting different areas:  ART - sculpture (mainly clay); ARCHITECTURE - constructions made with earth traditional and sustainable processes (adobe); GLASS SCIENCE - luminescent float glass using “rare earths” (lanthanide oxides). He is developing investigation linking these different fields, exploring the innumerous possibilities of combining ART and SCIENCE. The results will be applied in innovative arts works with much potential for both artists and scientists.
