RIVER-SEA Project Presentation @ Quintas do MARE

Quintas do MARE is an initiative where MARE researchers have the opportunity to give short 30 minute lectures about their work to the general public every two weeks. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the initiative addapted to the online format

The lattest session was about the RIVER-SEA project where Ana Pires, Bárbara Sá and Pedro Santos spoke about the work done so far, the results obtained and what's next for the project.

DES-based new product in the BfK RISE Program

In the ambit of Born from Knowledge RISE Acceleration Program, promoted by Agência Nacional de Inovação, yesterday, some members of our team participated in the Demo Day (Alentejo edition) final event, representing Des Solutio and a new product. During 3 months, the team had intensive training and mentoring to take the product to the market. The presented product was ImproVITA - a natural solution to increase the shelf-life of fresh-cut fruits and vegetables - which is based on Deep Eutectic Systems.

DES on the spotlight to fight COVID-19

Regarding the latest news about Dexamethasone, THEDES (Therapeutic Deep Eutectic Systems) may play an important role in the fight of COVID-19. In a research study, carried out by LAQV-REQUIMTE, in collaboration with 3B´s Research Group, it was found that THEDES based on Choline Chloride and Ascorbic Acid significantly enhance the bioavailability of Dexamethasone in physiological media.

Diana Rodrigues @ 90 Seconds of Science

Diana Rodrigues, PhD student at MARE-NOVA and MARlab member, was invited to the portuguese radio show 90 Seconds of Science, where she spoke about the work being developed in her PhD. This program airs every week day in the national portuguese radio Antena 1.

NOVA Science magazine – ERC Grantees

The annual publication of Universidade Nova de Lisboa – NOVA Science magazine – highlighted, in 2019, some ERC Grantees, that represent the excellent research carried out at the University. Just published!

Mariaelena led a publication just published in Marine Drugs. The work is an important milestone in our quest for novel phtosensitisers from marine invertebrates, Polychaeta in the case.

Many congratulations to Dr. Raquel dos Santos, that successfully defended her PhD work last friday afternoon (05.06.2020).

Her thesis is entitled "Developing non-chromatographic strategies for biopharmaceuticals purification", supervised by Dr. Ana Luísa Carvalho and Prof. Cecília Roque.

Congratulations, Dr. Cláudia Fernandes!

Many congratulations to Dr. Cláudia Fernandes for successfully defending her PhD work last friday evening, 29th May 2020.

Her thesis is entitled "Exploring affinity for the development of novel biomaterials", supervised by prof. Cecília Roque and co-supervised by Dr. Ana Pina and Dr. Tiago Fernandes.

New paper just accepted!

Cátia Gonçalves, our newest Ph.D. student, leads a new publication on the histochemistry of thiols in gladular tissue of Polychaeta, just accepted for publication in Histochemistry and Cell biology. More information will be added soon.
