Wound healing

The work in this field started in 2005 in collaboration with CERAMED, a Portuguese enterprise working in the Biomaterials area. In 2007 a PhD student started working at CERAMED under Prof. João Paulo Borges supervision to develop different wound dressings based on chitosan, a natural polymer. CE marking of three different products is under way. A paper was published.

Wound dressings based on electrospun and wetspun chitosan-based fibers have been recently tested in vivo with promising results in terms of skin regeneration. Patenting process of these devices is under way (disclosure form was submitted to the University TTO). This work is/was supported directly by CERAMED and two joint projects.
