Training wa accomplished on Nanoparticles (NPs) synthetic pathways elaboration, including one in mixed water/alcohol solutions. Invistigation is aimed at chemical state of the CeO2 surface by XPS and the relation between the physical-chemical properties of NPs and conditions of synthesis.
Investigations of the chemical state of the surface of CeO2 NPs confirmed the existence of both Ce3+ and Ce4+ ions at the surface of NPs. The results of the XPS measurements were used for semi-quantitative estimation of the percentage of Ce3+ ions at the surface of the CeO2 NPs. The obtained results are in good correlation with data of XRD studies: the highest percentage of Ce3+ ions is observed for NPs with the highest cell volume of NPs
