Vladimíra Dekan Carreira

Junior Researcher

 

Vladimíra Dekan Carreira, PhD received a PhD in Ecology and Biodiversity Protection from the Technical University in Zvolen (TUZVO), Slovakia in 2020. She worked as a Junior Researcher at TUZVO (2020-2023) and at the Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes & CHANGE (cE3c), University of Lisbon, Portugal (2023-2025). From 2025 she is working as a Junior Researcher at the Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre (MARE), NOVA University, Portugal. Her research focuses on aquatic insect and their length-mass relationships and biomass; plant litter decomposition by macroinvertebrate community and human impact on this process (plant invasion and eutrophication); and ecological risk assessment. In 2025 she was awarded a project by the Horizon call - ERA Postdoctoral Fellowships - called 'Hazards of microplastics to the marine ecosystem: a novel mesocosm approach to evaluate the dynamic and effects of microplastic on marine organisms' health' (acronym PlastHealth). She has published 9 articles in indexed journals and 23 papers/abstracts at the national and international conferences. She works in the area of Biological and environmental sciences with emphasis on freshwater biology and in Ecotoxicology and environmental risk assessment with emphasis on microplastics pollution. She has been a Principal investigator in 2 projects and has participated on another 7 projects. She has received 6 awards.
