Caka Carin Karlsson

PhD Candidate at NOVA FCT

 

Caka Karlsson is a PhD candidate in Environment and Sustainability at NOVA FCT, in collaboration with the Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre (MARE). Her research investigates the ecological impacts of sea-level rise in the Sado Estuary.

She completed her MSc in Animal Ecology at Lund University, Sweden, in 2023, and obtained her BSc in Conservation and Diversity from Halmstad University, Sweden, in 2021. For both degrees, she conducted research in Nigeria, studying the movements of Yellow-billed Kites and poultry farmers’ perceptions of raptors.

Caka was an Erasmus trainee at the University of Veterinary Sciences, Brno, Czech Republic, under Professor Ivan Literák, where she examined the genetic influences on the movement of red and black kites. In 2022, she participated in the Tropical Biology Association training program in Mpala, Kenya, focusing on honey bee ecology.

From 2022 to 2024, she collaborated with LIFE EuroKite and contributed to conservation initiatives with the Nigerian NGO BiotaCHF. She has authored five scientific publications and presented her research at two international conferences.
