Vanessa Otero is Researcher at the Department of Conservation and Restoration FCT NOVA and LAQV-Requimte Research Unit. Since September 2017, she is also co-responsible for DCR’s analytical infrastructure. She obtained her PhD in Conservation Science at FCT NOVA in 2018 with the thesis entitled “Historically accurate reconstructions of Amadeo’s chrome yellows: an integrated study of their manufacture and stability”. Currently, she is one of the few conservation scientists dedicated to the study of 19th and early 20th century Portuguese painting and the artists’ materials used at the time. She intends to advance forward the knowledge on this field, which is essential to place artworks in context as well as to establish the best conservation and authentication procedures.
