PhD (1992) and MSc (1985) in Structural Engineering, Associate Professor at the Civil Eng. Dep. of the FCT-UNL - Faculty of Science and Technology of the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. Lecturer of Reinforced and Prestressed Concrete structures, Structural Design, and Strengthening and Rehabilitation of Structures.

Researcher at CERIS – Civil Engineering Research and Innovation for Sustainability (since 2015) and former director of UNIC – Research Centre in Structures and Construction of the UNL (2001-2006). Co-author of 39 papers in international scientific journals, more than 50 communications in international scientific meetings and of 6 scientific books (http://orcid.org/0000-0002-5864-551X). Supervisor or co-supervisor of 9 completed PhD thesis and 8 ongoing PhD thesis. Supervisor or co-supervisor of several MSc thesis.

Former Pro-Rector at Universidade Nova de Lisboa (2010 to 2017) and member of the board of directors of the Instituto Superior Técnico of the Universidade de Lisboa (1997 to 1999). Member of the Ethic Commission (since 2018), of Scientific Council (since 2010) and coordinator of the PhD Program in Civil Engineering (since 2009) of the FCT-UNL.

Member of two Portuguese technical commissions for normalization and member of fib Commission 6 – Prefabrication (since 2001). Member of the OE - Ordem dos Engenheiros (Portuguese Engineers Association, since 1981) and Specialist in Structural Engineering by the OE (since 2007). Partner of the structural design office VERSOR Lda (since 1990).
