Mário Pimentel is a full-time Assistant Professor at FEUP. He defended his PhD thesis at FEUP in 2011 entitled “Numerical modelling for safety examination of existing concrete bridges”. During his PhD he was a visiting researcher at the École Polytechnique Féderále de Lausanne. His research interests include constitutive modelling of cement based materials, the development of integrated methodologies for structural safety assessment of the existing infrastructure and the use of advanced cementitious materials for providing long-lasting and cost-effective strengthening solutions. He is author of 13 publications in international peer-reviewed journals (ISI) and 61 papers in conferences. Between 2010 and 2013 he was technical coordinator of the Portuguese branch office of STUCKY, Ltd being involved in the design of large dams and hydropower schemes in Portugal, Turkey, Angola and Georgia. He is strongly involved in technology transfer and consultancy activities related to the analysis of existing concrete structures and structural health monitoring. Currently he is the head of the Structural Concrete Laboratory of FEUP and the supervisor of 3 ongoing PhD theses.
