My research career began in 2003 at the University of Algarve (Portugal) when I started the final-course project under the supervision of Professor José António Moreira. In this project I studied the reactivity of ambident electrophiles (substituted N-methyl-N-nitrosobenzenesulfonamides) with alkoxides in aqueous media. In 2004, I moved to Santiago de Compostela (Spain) to work under the supervision of Professors José Ramón Leis and Luis Garcia Rio. There I started to develop my formation in supramolecular chemistry working in molecular recognition of tetrahedral intermediates and supramolecular catalysis by crown ethers and their linear analogues. In 2006 I started the research that allowed me to obtain the PhD. degree (2011). During these years my research was focused in molecular recognition of small organic molecules and ions by water soluble calixarenes, cyclodextrins and cucurbiturils, supramolecular catalysis, aggregation of amphiphilic molecular baskets and supramolecular amphiphiles. In 2013 I joined the Photochemistry and Supramolecular Chemistry Research Group as a postdoctoral fellow to study the application of flavylium compounds as building blocks for the construction of multistate/multistimuli responsive supramolecular assemblies.
