short CV / research interests:
Miguel Santos concluded a degree in Chemistry by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL) in 2006 with a thesis based on the synthesis of organic inhibitors of proteases. The interest for the synthesis of organic compounds (β-lactams) endured and a Leonardo da Vinci’s fellowship at Universidad de Extremadura, Spain (Pilar Areces Bravo - UNEX, Amélia Pilar Rauter - FCUL). The latter further supervised his MsC degree in Chemistry, Health and Nutrition at FCUL (2008) with the development of green methodologies for the synthesis of O-glycosides and C-glycosyl derivatives promoted by heterogeneous catalysis of acid zeolites. This work was followed by the synthesis of organic insecticides for Novartis and then the PhD thesis in the Supramolecular Chemistry of azacalix[2]arene[2]triazine macrocycles with inorganic and organic anions (University of Aveiro - Vítor Félix, FCUL - Cristina Moiteiro), which was concluded in 2013. Currently, Miguel Santos’ research interests are mainly focused on the development of inorganic materials based on alluminosilicates with photochromic or photoluminescent properties for application in the concrete industry (FCT/UNL, Fernando Pina and César Laia).
Main methodologies employed: standard synthetic methods, full NMR characterization, mass spectrometry, IR, Raman, Difuse Reflectance, UV/Vis and Fluorescence spectroscopies.
teaching activity:
Organic Chemistry I (laboratory classes) and supervision of Degree and MsC thesis.
