Isabel Maria Amaral (Angola, 20-01-1964) is Assistant Professor of History of Science at the Faculty of Science and Technology of NOVA (New University of Lisbon). She holds a PhD in History and Philosophy of Science from the New University of Lisbon, where she specialized in the History of Science. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on History of Science and she publishes on regular bases both nationally and internationally. She is currently working on the history of tropical medicine, mainly during the first half of the 20th century. She participates on projects concerning the Portuguese History of Science and Medicine. She is co-curator of the Virtual Museum of Tropical Medicine at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (New University of Lisbon).
