EN: Ana Paula Silva holds a PhD in History and Philosophy of Science and she is a member of CIUHCT (Inter University Centre of History of Science and Technology), where she undertakes the post-doctoral research project – The electrification of African Colonies –, funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. She has previously participated in several projects at both the national and international context, namely the Portuguese Engineering and the African Empire funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, and the Tensions of Europe: Technology in the Making of 20th Century Europe, funded by the European Science Foundation and coordinated by Professor Johan Schot, Technical University of Eindhoven (The Netherlands), in 3 sub-themes: Networking Europe; Colonization, Decolonization and Development; and Communications.

PT: Ana Paula Silva é investigadora do Centro Interuniversitário para a História das Ciências e da Tecnologia, no Departamento de Ciências Sociais Aplicadas da Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT/UNL).  Neste momento, para além de integrar o projecto "Reconstruindo o continente africano: a engenharia portuguesa e a apropriação dos território coloniais de Angola e Moçambique (1870-1974)", está a desenvolver o 2.º triénio do seu projecto de pós-doutoramento, intitulado "A Electrificação das Colónias Africanas".

Concluiu o seu doutoramento em 2008, em História e Filosofia das Ciências na FCT/UNL, com a tese intitulada A Introdução das Telecomunicações Eléctricas em Portugal: 1855-1939. Anteriormente, trabalhou em projectos de investigação em História da Tecnologia fundamentalmente sobre telecomunicações elétricas.

Recentemente, editou com Adrea Giunti um volume monográfico da Storia económica, Economics and politics in submarine telegraph cables (XIXth and XXth centuries). A global perspective between history, heritage and preservation, Naples: Edizioni scientifiche italiane, 2013; e publicou com Mário E. Lisboa e António M. Martins, o artigo “Locality in the Global World: facts and reflections on the Lusitanian land. Examples of the heritage of submarine cables”, in Economics and politics in submarine telegraph cables (XIXth and XXth centuries). A global perspective between history, heritage and preservation, Storia economica (Fall 2013), pp.129-163.
