Rita Sobral

Assistant Professor at the Department of Life Sciences and head of the Lab of Molecular Microbiology of Bacterial Pathogens at NOVA FCT, Portugal.


With a background in microbiology and infectious diseases, she received her Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology in 2006. She did part of the doctoral studies at the Rockefeller University and was twice awarded the ESCMID young researcher grant. Her research interests include the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms of resistance to antibiotics in Staphylococcus aureus, focussing on cell wall physiology, biofilm formation and host interaction.
