Paula S. Branco is Associate professor with Habilitation at NOVA School of Science and Technology. She completed her PhD in Chemistry, specialization in Organic Chemistry in June 1992, by the same institution. The scientific activity has been focused in the target-oriented organic synthesis, and the scientific interests have diversified in several areas always having by base the design and synthesis of new molecules and new reactions, which can contribute to interdisciplinary solutions. Namely, 1) the idealization and synthesis of new dye molecules as sensitizers for solar cells and new organic redox mediators for redox flow batteries, 2) the functionalization of magnetic nanoparticles based on magnetite with metals or organic ligands, 3) the synthesis of natural products and derivatives with potential biological interest and 4) the synthesis of several metabolites resulting from the action of xenobiotics in the human body. Also, and as a result of a collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry - HOVIONE, the development of new synthesis for APIs was undertaken. She is co-author of 79 international peer-reviewed publications, with 4804 citations (4628 excluding self-citations) at the date of 30/07/23, reflected in an index-h of 34 (ISI WoS). The pedagogical and scientific training involved, with co-supervision, 5 Post Doctoral Fellows, 9 PhD students (five on going), 20 master students (two on going) and 24 scientific research fellows. Funding Projects: 15 in total (4 as PI Coordinator). She is currently an Integrated Researcher at LAQV-REQUIMTE, Associate Laboratory for Green Chemistry - Chemistry and Technology Network
