Nicole Sofia Morgado Vieira is currently a Pos-Doc Researcher at the Alternative Fluids for Green Chemistry Group. She is a member of the group since October 2013 when she started developing her Master thesis entitled “Biomedical Applications Using Ionic Liquids”. She concluded her PhD project entitled “Fluorinated Ionic Liquids for the Development of New Drug Delivery System” that aims the use of fluorinated ionic liquids as a new green material for the encapsulation of therapeutic proteins. She holds a Ph.D. degree in “Engineering and Tecnhology Sciences (Universidade NOVA de Lisboa)”, a master in “Pharmaceutical Biotechnology” (Faculdade de Farmácia, Universidade de Coimbra) and a bachelor degree in Human Biology (Universidade de Évora). Her research not only comprises the synthesis and characterization of the pure fluorinated ionic liquids, but also their impact in the main properties of therapeutic proteins. More recently, she has been involved in a work that proves the encapsulation of lysozyme (therapeutic protein) inside the aggregates of ionic liquids. From the results obtained by her work 7 publications have been released in several international journals, and 2 more are under revisions for publication.
