Multifunctional magnetic materials

In 2011, a new R&D line on Multifunctional Magnetic Nanoparticles started in the Biomaterials group. The initial goal was to produce chitosan-based magnetic nanoparticles for cancer theranostics (treatment and diagnostic) application: treatment through controlled drug delivery and magnetic hyperthermia, and diagnostic through magnetic resonance imaging.
This is a multidisciplinary field that associates experts in Materials Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Pharmacy.

Thermoresponsive polymeric microgels have been studied in collaboration with colleagues of SBM group.

Current work in this field is focused on producing multifunctional dual-stimuli responsive nanofibrous magnetic membranes for controlled drug delivery and magnetic hyperthermia using colloidal electrospinning.
