Instruct is the dynamic hub of structural biology providing an integrated infrastructure of cutting edge technology, scientific expertise and pioneering training.

Participation in Instruct will establish and reinforce skills and technology transfer between European structural biology member participants. This in turn will help to develop the next generation of technologies and participate in shaping future frameworks to support European science. As part of Instruct, Portugal will be eligible for access to cutting-edge high specification technologies that will add value and impact to research outcomes, as well as from training opportunities for young researchers. Reciprocal collaborative research opportunities will be encouraged and strengthened amongst the Instruct Consortium membership.

Instruct-PT is partly identified by the existence of the Portuguese BAG at the ESRF, which is running since 2000 and involves all the groups working on x-ray crystallography in Portugal.

Several collaborations have occurred and are ongoing between Portugal and other members of the scientific community working in the areas represented by Instruct. Further links and collaborations will certainly develop further in a much more integrated way through the participation of Portugal in Instruct and the EU infrastructure.
